Next Generation Software-Defined Networking (SDN) Operating System


ViNOX is a next generation carrier grade networking operating system (OS) which supports multiple transport technologies such as Carrier Ethernet, IP/MPLS and OpenFlow.

Designed with the service providers and mobile operators needs in mind, the ViNOX offers full support in the current networks in addition to next generation Software-Defined Networking (SDN) networks. This hybrid networking OS will allow the carriers to evolve their networks gradually while future proofing their investments.

ViNOX supports NETCONF and YANG in order to simplify the services creation and management and expedite the integration time with the network management layer. In addition to that the ViNOX supports OpenFlow protocol to complete the SDN Customer premises equipment (CPE) support capabilities. 

ViNOX OpenFlow switch mode decouples the control and data plane in a unique way that keeps the real time sensitive functionality locally on the device while extracting the heavy compute non real time tasks to the SDN controller.  

ViNOX runs on Telco Systems T-Marc and T-Metro products as well as the CloudMetro SDN and Distributed Network functions virtualization (D-NFV) platforms, and is sold separately from the hardware platforms.

Multiple Transport Technologies Support

ViNOX offers service providers real flexibility in their choice of transport technologies. ViNOX supports multiple transport technologies, such as .1Q, Q-in-Q, and IP/MPLS. ViNOX also supports OpenFlow as the emerging SDN data plane technology.

By implementing OpenFlow Hybrid mode ViNOX bridges the gaps between a  Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE2.0) and an SDN network. This hybrid mode provides carrier grade functional partitioning between the embedded software (ViNOX) and the OpenFlow controller, allowing T-Marc, T-Metro and CloudMetro products to provide carrier-specific feature sets (like resiliency or OAM) at the required level of performance and accuracy. 

Next Generation Management Support

ViNOX offers next generation management support. In addition to CLI and SNMP, ViNOX provides full SDN support, with comprehensive adoption of NETCONF, the network configuration protocol, and YANG, its data modeling language.

By implementing these modern management models ViNOX offers a high level of management flexibility, support in configuration commit and rollout, and much more efficient management. Since NETCONF and YANG use XML file format they are well suited for process automation, and can shorten the NMS / OSS integration cycle.  

Enhanced Traffic Engineering Capabilities

New applications emerge every other day, customers’ requirements and needs change rapidly, and more and more services are transitioning into databased services. This can pose a challenge to efficient quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) for various application requirements.

ViNOX implements a comprehensive set of QoS and HQoS features that enable service providers to have granular control over the behavior of traffic and services in their networks. 

In addition, ViNOX supports multiple traffic engineering, and dynamic signaling protocols, like LDP and RSVP-TE, so that providers are able to engineer data paths based on multiple attributes, while assuring that the requested paths can meet defined services requirements.

Advanced OAM (Operation, Administration and Maintenance) support

ViNOX embeds a comprehensive set of OAM and SLA monitoring and testing tools, utilizing hardware engines on Telco Systems devices, as well as software processes to provide real-time, accurate OAM capabilities. These capabilities include network measurements and service turn-up testing and verification, designed to reduce truck rolls and shorten time for activation and management.

ViNOX supports a wide range of standards, including link level EFM industry standards, IEEE 802.1ag Connectivity Fault Management (CFM) protocols, ITU-T Y.1731 loss and delay measurement, Y.1731 SLM for E-LAN testing, and RFC2544 and Y.1564 for service activation testing.

Carrier Grade Resiliency

ViNOX architecture provides carrier grade resiliency design and a variety of resiliency protocols. By utilizing both hardware and software mechanisms, ViNOX offers link-level protection mechanisms (Resilient link, FRR, dual homing), network-wide mechanisms (xSTP, G.8032), and service-level mechanisms (G.8031, BFD).

These field-proven mechanisms help the service providers to assure the ongoing delivery of their services, identify and overcome networks faults, and isolate malfunctions while minimizing service down time, reducing technicians track rolls and saving on OPEX.
